A week of insanity
Welcome (or welcome back) to my writing journey!
Right off the bat, I want to give a huge thank you to everyone who has subscribed recently. The past 2 days have been an absolute whirlwind! I can’t even express how grateful I am. Thank you so much!
On another note, I’ve got a question for you guys - does anyone think that being asked to hand in 3 lab reports in the span of 3 days is absurd? Is it just me?
Anyway, I’m being buried by an endless mound of assignments. No matter how many I do, there are always more and there is not nearly enough time to do them all and also live like a normal person. Yikes. College is nuts.
I do my best to find times to write nevertheless, because I have to do something fun.
I’m trying to channel the stress and overwhelm I’m feeling into my book and writing the parts of it where those feelings are necessary.
Doing that has 2 advantages - the first being that I can write those scenes in a believable way because I am writing them from a very real perspective. The second is that the writing gives me an outlet for those feelings. I get to vent and feel them in a safe environment, and that really helps me keep them under control.
My goals for this week are to have two writing sessions of at least an hour each, hand in all my assignments on time, and not lose my mind (unlikely).
Today I wrote a very dramatic scene where the protagonist clashes with her very close friend. The protagonist is arguing for ‘the ends justify the means’ and the friend is arguing against.
The scene concludes with their friendship in ruins after they uttered words that should never have been said. The protagonist knew where to hit and she hit hard. It was a low blow and hurt the friend deeply.
The scene almost made me cry while writing it. I felt for the friend and also for the protagonist, who feels terrible for hurting someone she loves.
The other interesting thing about this scene is it puts the spotlight on the protagonist’s ruthless streak. It also shows she can separate logic and emotion so completely that she can use one while being influenced by none of the other. This will continue to develop throughout the book and will be one of the character growth opportunities the protagonist has.
I’m really happy to have been able to write today and I’m happy with the results too, which is a nice bonus.
To recap today’s work:
